Somatic Healing with Horses

Healing through the wisdom of the herd

Horses as Mirrors of Sovereignty, Presence, and Belonging

Equine Guided Empowerment® & Somatic Reprogramming® with horses is a body-centered approach that weaves nervous system work with the wisdom and magic of horses.

At the heart of this work is the understanding that horses, as deeply present and responsive beings, mirror our internal states. Masters of attunement, they sense even the subtlest shifts in breath, posture, and energy— responding not to what we say, but to how we are. In this way, they become powerful biofeedback partners, reflecting back what’s happening in our nervous system and making the invisible visible.

Unlike talk therapy alone, equine-somatic work bypasses the analytical mind and goes straight to the body. Healing emerges through presence, reciprocity, and choice— where sovereignty is mirrored, boundaries are explored, and sensitivity is reclaimed as strength.

What Is Somatic Healing with Horses?

Somatic healing with horses is a body-centered therapeutic practice that combines nervous system regulation with the relational wisdom of horses. At its core, it is an experiential approach to healing that takes place on the ground, not in the saddle, where horses are free to respond authentically.

Unlike talk therapy, which focuses on thoughts and stories, this work goes directly to the body. From there, story and meaning naturally arise, helping you connect what you feel with the deeper patterns shaping your life.

Horses are non-judgmental, highly attuned beings who mirror our internal states in real time. They sense subtle shifts in breath, posture, and energy, reflecting back whether we are braced, anxious, present, or at ease. This makes them powerful partners in helping us see what’s happening beneath the surface and inviting us into regulation, authenticity, and embodied presence.

Somatic healing with horses is, at its heart, about turning concepts like “safety” or “connection” into lived experiences. Through the immediate feedback of the horse, we practice sovereignty, boundaries, and trust in our sensitivity—reclaiming parts of ourselves that have been buried under stress, trauma, or cultural conditioning.

The Power of Healing with Horses

Insight alone often isn’t enough when trauma or stress is stored in the body. Partnering with horses provides a unique pathway that invites the invisible to become visible, and invites us into embodied healing.

In partnership with horses, this work allows us to:

  • Work directly with the nervous system to restore safety and regulation.

  • Create opportunities to practice consent and boundaries in real time.

  • Reclaim sensitivity and intuition as strengths instead of liabilities.

  • Invites integration of the archetypal feminine and masculine— honoring presence, reciprocity, and flow alongside clarity, direction, and strength.

  • Root us back in ecology and belonging, reminding us that we are part of nature, not separate from it.

  • Experience embodied, relational learning— healing not just through insight, but through lived experience with another soverign being.

Who Can Benefit from Somatic Healing with Horses

This work is for anyone who wants to experience themselves more deeply and build a clearer, more authentic relationship with both self and horse.

It can also be deeply supportive if you:

  • Carry trauma, stress, or grief that talking alone hasn’t shifted.

  • Long to reclaim sensitivity, intuition, and authentic power.

  • Have experienced crossed or ignored boundaries and seek reparative experiences of consent.

  • Desire a more embodied, regulated nervous system.

  • Feel disconnected from nature, cycles, or belonging.

  • Want to cultivate presence and authenticity that strengthens your bond with horses and with yourself.

  • Are seeking not just healing, but growth— clearer boundaries, deeper connection, and more aligned ways of being.

Book a Session

Hey! I’m Taren.

& I am so happy you are here.

Briefly: I am a somatic practitioner, storyteller, and trauma alchemist. My approach to healing is rooted in lived experience: not just theory, but the kind of descent that reshapes you from the inside out.

Somatic therapy with me is grounded in the belief that the body holds the stories the mind can’t always name. Our work together focuses on regulation, attunement, and repair—helping you build safety in the body so you can begin to feel, process, and integrate what’s been stored beneath the surface. We’ll follow the subtle cues of your nervous system, working slowly and intuitively to reconnect you with your inner landscape.

Together, we’ll explore the unconscious through the body—tracking sensations, patterns, and emotional responses—as well as through story and metaphor. This helps you make sense of what’s been driving you beneath the surface, and begin to feel more connected, whole, and at home in yourself.

What People are Saying

Since working together I have more access to the somatic experiences that arrive alongside my feelings, thoughts, and internal and external disruptions to my days. Taren revealed ways I can honor my experiences while also not inviting them to overtake/overwhelm me. My experience with Taren has profoundly transformed my journey towards healing and self-integration, and I am deeply grateful for her compassionate and insightful guidance. Anna

Taren emits a pure magnetism that you can’t help but be drawn to. And if you are, my guess is it’s because there’s something there for you to discover together. The divine masculine and feminine energies are beautifully woven within her presence. She has an intuitive ability to know when to offer a more nurturing, protective presence and when to lovingly nudge you past your comfort zone - both harmoniously helping you to stretch a little more and step into a more expanded version of yourself. Taren’s gentle ferocity is both an inspiration and a mirror - guiding you back to yourself in a way that leaves you feeling empowered and supported. I can’t imagine anyone else I’d rather have in my corner as I navigate the ebbs and flows of life. — C.S

Lineage of Learning

My somatic-centered work with horses is deeply influenced by my nearly 4 years of training, apprenticeship & co-facilitation with Cassandra Ogier, founder of the The Reflective Horse®, whose philosophy honors horses as sovereign, sentient beings and co-facilitators of transformation. This approach is rooted in respect, compassion, and presence— meeting horses as partners rather than tools, and allowing their natural freedom and reflections of sovereignty to guide our personal work.

Here, horses mirror our truth without judgment, inviting us to shed masks, regulate our nervous systems, and reconnect with the wisdom of the body and the earth. This foundation shapes my own practice, where embodiment, breath, and reciprocity create a space for authentic healing and reclamation.
